Disciple Making is Simple, but not Easy

Disciple Making is Simple, but not Easy

Over the years it seems I’ve read hundreds of articles about how to “make disciples”. I have to admit…I’ve started to read less and less. Why? Because I have all the answers? Nah…because over the years it became really clear how this process plays out. Turns out it isn’t rocket science. Not even close.

It couldn’t be…if it did then all Jesus’ disciples and guys like me for that matter are sunk. It actually involves some really easy to grasp concepts that almost seem too simple. THAT’S what makes it so effective…it’s simple.

The key is are we WILLING to sign up for it? Very simply it involves intentionally pursuing those who don’t know Jesus, loving them and serving them, sharing the Good News with them and after God does His thing with their hearts, help them grow in their faith and then help them do the same with their friends.

There it is…did you see it? Doing all this stuff requires PROXIMITY…we just gotta be WITH THEM. THAT was Jesus method. It wasn’t 14 classes on evangelism or a membership class it was just him spending time with people and his guys and they watched him do it over a few years. They observed Him, He included them and they picked it up. No seminary degrees, no formal training. Just watching the Master and being WITH Him.

They watched him interrupt his own schedule for others, interact with seekers, ask others important spiritual questions, hang out with “sinners” and they learned all they needed. Sure Jesus may have opened the book of Isiaiah to them a couple times but mostly Jesus method was just “keep doing what we’ve been doing boys” and it changed the world we live in today.

His message and method was HIMSELF. Watch. Learn. Listen. “Now…go and do what we’ve been doing fellas!!!”

Notice there wasn’t alot of “Wait what do you want us to do again?” They KNEW what to do…cuz they watched it for 3 years. Are we giving other disciples something to “watch” and participate in with us? If we do we WILL be much more effective and others will “get it” much quicker
